How this work was made
It may not be obvious, but this digital work is composed entirely of fingerprints, or scanned gesture (see demonstration at left). Beginning with a regular desktop scanner, hand gestures are made as the light bar moves. The resulting image looks like mutated fingers. From this image, interesting lines and shapes are selected then recombined into motifs and compositions.
The purpose behind such a labor intensive effort is to create the feeling of artwork that has been made by human hands. By working with irregular lines and shapes that are imbued with the organic qualities found in nature, the resulting artwork feels handmade.
