Biography
What I love about digital art:
It’s alive.... there is always potential to become something else.
Art Thrills:
- Being “in flow” observing brain to hand connection
- Pursuing "what if"
- Using unconventional techniques and tools
- Using technology to produce something made by hand
- Finding "abstract paintings” through a camera viewfinder
Main Influences
- Intimate botanical vignettes (lichen on rocks, dead plants giving way to new)
- Weather worn, deteriorated remnants (peeling paint, rusted gears)
- Outdated aesthetics (antiques, artifacts, vintage colors and patterns)
- Asian aesthetics (inherited through my father's treasured keepsakes from Japan)
Early Career:
Graphic Artist, first by hand then by computer. Paste-up and layout, logo and ad design.
Mid Career:
Ceramic Artist, modified hammer-and-anvil technique to make 8-pound pinch-pots, and developed a stationary fire-box raku kiln allowing pieces to remain untouched during reduction. Artwork published internationally, presented lectures and workshops around the United States.
Current Career:
Abstract digital artist developing scanned gesture captured on a desktop scanner.
