About this Work
My abstract digital art begins with my hands when I use a desktop scanner to capture a gesture. The abstract lines and shapes from the result become the basis of my work which has evolved over the last fourteen years. What was once interesting and unique is now very painterly as well. Working at a large scale produces images that are rich with depth and detail, much of which can only be seen at full size.
The inspiration to capture gesture resulted from a collision of ideas. My ceramics career was based on an unusual hand-building technique using finger manipulations and arm movements. Drawing class spurred thoughts about line and gesture; ways to make it, how it communicates, impulse. When a photography professor asked what I liked to look at, lines were on my mind, gesture became my subject.
